About Stick, Stay, Grow

Stick, Stay, Grow, is the sequel to Catalogue Baby. After years of losses and struggles with infertility, Myriam finally finds herself pregnant with twins. After everything that she went through trying to conceive, you'd think that, when she was finally pregnant with her twins, the universe would give her a bit of a break and let her have an easy and smooth pregnancy and birth.

But nope! No dice. Instead, between her son's water breaking at 18 weeks, going on bedrest, being sent to live in the hospital for several weeks (while having to leave her bunny Sherbert at home with a house sitter), the premature birth of her twins, and two months in the NICU,  the universe gave her fodder for an intense rollercoaster of a sequel to Catalogue Baby!

Stick, Stay, Grow is a book about the courage, hope, strength, and resilience of her two babies and her, their mother, in the face of impossible odds.

It is important to be open about the fact that a journey to babies is not always an easy one, and that all too often, pregnancies, births, and postpartum life do not at all resemble the picture-perfect adventure that is portrayed in the media.

For a lot of people, stories of high-risk pregnancies, babies born prematurely, and life in the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) live in a space shrouded by mystery. We don't talk much (if at all) about these realities that exist for so many people. Although compared to miscarriage, there is less taboo around discussing such topics, the silence around them is just as pervasive. The stories are often complex, intensely private, and rife with fear, anxiety, and breathless hope.

In the same way that Catalogue Baby seeks to break the silence and taboos surrounding miscarriage and infertility, Stick, Stay, Grow opens the conversation to two more little talked about aspects of maternal health: high-risk pregnancies and life in the NICU. Hopefully by reading it, people will feel less lonely in their struggle. And hopefully, the people supporting those struggling with the stress and anxiety of dealing with things beyond their control and which are , will find it a useful resource as well.

Stick, Stay, Grow is born out of the need for more resources and shared stories. It is to build community, create conversation, and increase understanding and compassion for what is a very difficult time in countless mothers' lives.
